Soiltechnics are pleased to announce a new and exciting opportunity for the right candidate to join one of the leading companies specialising in ground-related risk management and building fabric investigation, based in our Northampton office.

About the role




The role of the Trainee CAD and Data Technician offers the right candidate the opportunity to build, develop and grow their career with a highly reputable and growing company.


In this role, you'll be responsible for creating accurate, professional CAD drawings and digital models of structural elements and opening-up works for existing buildings. You'll collaborate closely with engineers and project managers, translating site data and survey notes into clear, detailed drawings that inform important project decisions. You will be required to undertake various tasks such as, but not limited to;

Creating, updating, and maintaining high-quality 2D CAD drawings and layouts based on project requirements. Translating engineers' field notes, sketches, and survey data into clear, accurate drawings. Using a variety of software tools to produce the right drawing output for each project. Occasionally work with point cloud data and 3D models to refine or develop drawings. Maintaining drawing templates and ensure consistency with company standards. Revising and updating existing drawings as projects evolve. Communicating effectively with engineers and project managers to confirm details and resolve queries. Keeping drawing folders and project files well-organised in line with our in-house systems.


Having the ability to work both as part of a team and also take overall responsibility for your personal workload, whilst delivering excellent levels of service is essential. A desire to put our clients' needs first and a thirst to develop your own skills is a key part of fitting into this established team.


This role is perfect for someone who has a strong background in administration and is starting out in CAD or who has previous experience and is looking for a new and exciting challenge in a fast-growing company.

About you




To be successful in this role you'll have strong communication skills, great attention to detail, be process driven, analytical, highly organised and have excellent problem-solving skills. You will need to be reliable and a team player with a keen eye for detail and pride in producing quality, accurate work.


Some experience or familiarity with CAD (AutoCAD or similar software), QGIS or other digital drawing tools is beneficial but not essential. You'll have good computer skills across a number of programmes such as Outlook, Excel, and Word and the ability to interpret--or willingness to learn how to interpret--engineering and architectural plans.


You'll be working across a number of areas so strong organisational skills are also a must. You'll also have a strong team ethic, have a pro-active attitude and be able to demonstrate strong collaborative behaviors within a team and across the company.

We're offering a competitive starting salary of 25,000 pa, depending on experience, along with 25 days annual leave (plus 8 bank holidays), site pay for each day worked onsite, private medical insurance and relevant professional/training fees paid for.
