Job Description

We are seeking a highly organised and experienced Transport Manager to manage and oversee the day-to-day operations of SEN transport services for multiple councils. This role is crucial in ensuring transport services are delivered safely, efficiently, and on time, meeting the specific needs of SEN students.

Key Responsibilities:



Operational Management:

Plan, coordinate, and manage daily SEN transport schedules to ensure the safe and timely transportation of students. Oversee route planning, driver allocation, and vehicle dispatch to optimise efficiency and service delivery. Monitor performance and ensure compliance with contractual obligations and service level agreements (SLAs) with local councils.

Stakeholder Engagement:

Act as the main point of contact for councils, schools, parents, and carers, addressing any concerns or issues related to transport services. Build and maintain strong relationships with local councils to ensure open communication and collaboration. Promptly resolve operational issues or complaints, implementing corrective actions as needed.

Compliance and Safety:

Ensure all transport operations comply with legal and regulatory requirements, including health and safety standards, safeguarding policies, and vehicle maintenance protocols. Conduct regular audits to maintain high standards of safety and service. Stay updated with changes in legislation affecting SEN transport and adjust operations accordingly.

Data Management and Reporting:

Maintain accurate records of transport operations, including route data, attendance, and compliance checks. Analyse data to identify trends and areas for improvement, providing detailed reports to senior management and councils. Develop strategies to improve transport efficiency and effectiveness based on data analysis.

Crisis Management:

Coordinate responses to emergencies or disruptions, ensuring minimal impact on students and families. Maintain contingency plans for unexpected events such as vehicle breakdowns or adverse weather conditions.

Essential Qualifications and Experience:



Proven experience in transport coordination, preferably within the SEN or school transport sector. Strong knowledge of SEN transport requirements and challenges. Experience working with local councils and understanding public sector service delivery. Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities. Strong leadership skills, with experience supervising and motivating teams. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders. Proficiency in transport management software and Google Suite.

Desirable Skills:



CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) in Transport Management. Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and legislation. Experience in route optimisation and logistics management. Familiarity with health and safety regulations related to transport services.
