Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Transport Manager to oversee our logistics operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the transportation of goods, ensuring timely and efficient delivery while maintaining high standards of safety and compliance. This role requires strong leadership skills, excellent communication abilities, and a solid understanding of supply chain management.

Duties

The Transport Manager plans the optimum utilisation of staff and operating equipment, coordinates maintenance to minimise service disruption, and ensures compliance with all statutory regulations including driver hours, crew and vehicle licensing, equipment safety, and insurance. They oversee the transportation of passengers and the movement, handling, and storage of freight, reviewing space use, staffing, and distribution costs to guide future policy. Responsibilities include managing a robust driver roster, monitoring performance and behaviour, coordinating training, and ensuring efficient dispatching with all necessary documentation. The role involves liaising with customers on driver inductions and delivery requirements, overseeing harbour maintenance and working with ship owners, customs, and dock staff to arrange ship servicing, supervising daily railway station activities, and arranging airport runway and building maintenance while ensuring fuel, catering, and service needs are met. Proficiency in transport software, site safety management, and cross-site coordination is essential.

Requirements

Proven experience in a transport management role or similar position. Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage a diverse team effectively. Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal. Proficiency in IT applications including Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook) and computer literacy for logistics software. Knowledge of supply chain processes and best practices. Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. A proactive approach to problem-solving with attention to detail. Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
