Position Overview

The UK Production Manager - USV will lead and oversee all production operations for Syos Aerospace's Unmanned Surface Vehicle programmes within the United Kingdom. The role will ensure all projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality and safety standards.

This position requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and collaboration with engineering, supply chain, quality assurance, and programme management teams. The successful candidate will be familiar with UK and European defence/aerospace regulatory frameworks, and experienced in managing complex build and integration programmes.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and manage daily USV production activities across UK facilities. Develop and oversee production planning, scheduling, and resource allocation to meet programme milestones. Collaborate closely with engineering teams to ensure design-for-manufacture, resolve production challenges, and drive continuous improvement. Implement and promote lean manufacturing practices and operational efficiency initiatives. Manage supplier and subcontractor relationships across the UK and Europe to ensure timely delivery of critical components. Ensure compliance with UK and EU safety, quality, and defence standards (e.g., ISO 9001, AS9100, UK MOD DEFCON, ITAR/EAR where applicable). Establish and track KPIs relating to productivity, quality, cost, and on-time delivery. Lead, motivate, and develop production staff, fostering a culture of accountability, safety, and excellence. Support integration, harbour trials, and commissioning of USV platforms. Provide regular progress reports, risk assessments, and mitigation strategies to senior leadership.

Qualifications

Required:

7+ years' experience in production or manufacturing management, ideally within aerospace, defence, or marine systems. Demonstrable experience leading production teams in a complex, high-value manufacturing environment. Strong understanding of lean manufacturing, supply chain coordination, and production scheduling. Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills. Knowledge of UK and EU quality and defence regulatory frameworks (ISO 9001, AS9100, DEFSTANs, ITAR/EAR).

Preferred:

Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, or related discipline. Experience within unmanned systems (aerospace, maritime, or defence). Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards it. Professional certifications (Lean Six Sigma, PRINCE2, PMP). Postgraduate qualification (MBA or MSc in Engineering/Operations).
