Overview of the Department/Section

  • The Commodity Finance (\xe2\x80\x9cCF\xe2\x80\x9d) Team primarily provides working capital solutions to commodity traders and commodity corporates based in EMEA (Producers, processors, marketers, distributors, etc) to meet their financing needs in all phases of commodity trading activities;
  • CF is relationship manager for Independent Commodity Traders and for some Commodity Corporates;
  • CF is product partner for RM offices of most Commodity Corporates.

Main Purpose of the Role
  • Market and expand ECSTF\xe2\x80\x99s EXLC (incl. structured LC) and ARPS offer, in a client-facing role, in close cooperation with Relationship Managers and the Head of Export Sales.
  • Develop and expand relationships with FIs, NBFIs, and Commodity Finance clients from a commodity finance standpoint, including to facilitate asset distribution
  • Expand the product range on offer, supporting the new product approval processes where necessary
  • Support the Head of Export Sales to manage a portfolio of clients \xe2\x80\x9csellers\xe2\x80\x9d, and with any related credit and administrative tasks
  • Enhance average ROE on such product suite, via innovative / RWA enhancement structures
  • Promote and implement digitalisation solutions (e.g. Komgo) to the aforementioned products
  • Responsible for product management of the CSTF (Commodity & Structured Trade Finance) product suite as relevant, ensuring all trade finance products are sold within the set parameters, adhere to product policies and service requirements agreed. ETBO (Transaction Banking) have been assigned the responsibility to co-ordinate the tasks of the product manager on behalf of CSTF with regular input from CSTF.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the dialogue with clients, to identify, map, and meet their requirements (primarily Export LC business and Receivable Discounting) in the aforementioned areas, in close cooperation with RMs and Head of Export Sales.
  • Work closely with internal MUFG functions including global FI teams, KYC, Middle/Back Office to enhance End to End processes and enable smooth and successful transaction delivery that meet client needs.
  • Centralise information and gain market information on commercial activities and counterparties to expand the business.
  • Price the transactions properly based on market price, MUFG\xe2\x80\x99s return expectation, customer expectation and credit approval.
  • Execute deal transactions within specified limits by closely working with internal MUFG functions to enable smooth and successful transaction delivery that meet client needs.
  • Coordinate the legal work internally and negotiate the necessary legal documents with clients (silent confirmation agreements relating to export LC business and purchase agreements relating to receivable discounting business).
  • Prepare credit applications (new facilities, renewals, amendments), borrower ratings and to review Facility documentation relating mainly to Receivable discounting business.
  • Support distribution of assets generated by Export Sales Team to manage exposure and enhance returns
  • Preparation of Management presentation of Receivable Discounting and Export Letter of Credit business (quarterly and/or upon request).
  • Contribute to the development, adaptation and application of policy, procedures and analysis to ensure a relevant, compliant and rigorous approach to the management of any risk which can negatively affect the portfolio.
  • Contribute towards making the business more efficient and productive.
  • Collaborate with other departments within MUFG including Investment Banking, Transaction Banking, Coverage, Middle and Back Offices, Global Credit Divisions, Global Markets, SPD-Tokyo and global CSTF teams.
  • Support Relationship Managers (internal and external) to create more ancillary business and revenues.
  • Understand the business, regulatory and risk framework, working with the business to assist its growth while ensuring compliance with internal policies and risk appetite.
  • Conduct research from a range of generalised and specialist sources, extracting relevant information and summarising data to inform decision making at more senior levels;
  • Develop and guide graduates and interns to expand their product and credit skillset.
Work Experience

Essential:
  • Good understanding/experience of origination Export LC/FI products and Receivable Discounting (minimum 3 years).
Preferred:
  • A background in Trade Asset Distribution
  • A background in Trade Finance middle office/operations.
  • A background in commodity finance / natural resources.
