We're Checkout.com - you might not know our name, but companies like eBay, ASOS, Klarna, Uber Eats, and Sony do. That moment when you check out online? We make it happen.

Checkout.com is where the world checks out. Our global network powers billions of transactions every year, making money move without making a fuss. We spent years perfecting a service most people will never notice. Because when digital payments just work, businesses grow, customers stay, and no one stops to think about why.

With 19 offices spanning six continents, we feel at home everywhere - but London is our HQ. Wherever our people work their magic, they're fast-moving, performance-obsessed, and driven by being better every day. Ideal. Because a role here isn't just another job; it's a career-defining opportunity to build the future of fintech.

This role is part of the Finance Technology team, reporting to the Engineering Manager, Finance Technology. The team's purpose is to enable the Finance Team to deliver on Checkout.com's objectives through system implementations, process re-engineering, and operating model design. As a Senior Engineer I, you will be responsible for the technical delivery of key financial systems, which include Workday (including Adaptive Planning), Zip, Emburse Enterprise, Boomi and Coupa. You will lead the design and implementation of large-scale, critical projects while providing Application Management Support (AMS) and partnering with key stakeholders to drive system improvements. You will also lead Finance Transformation initiatives and mentor other engineers in the team.

What you will be doing:

---------------------------

Leading the design, implementation, and delivery of large-scale or challenging AMS projects, which includes incident and release management, end-user training, creating online help documents, vendor coordination, and comprehensive testing strategies. Leading broader Finance Transformation initiatives, in collaboration with key stakeholders (such as Financial Controllers, Financial Reporting, Treasury), driving process mapping and optimisation, conducting control assessments, architecting process automation solutions, and supporting the shaping of policy creation. Influencing group decisions through insightful contributions and accepting ambiguity in problem definitions to lead the design and implementation of solutions, whether addressing production issues or implementing new services. Confidently analysing data using a data-driven approach to make strategic recommendations and informed decisions that bring value to the atom and group. Delivering medium to large-sized projects end-to-end with a high degree of quality, regularly contributing to technical initiatives that bring value to the atom and occasionally to the whole group. Consistently demonstrating technical leadership and being an example of efficiency, delivering impactful results with minimal direction. Providing guidance and mentorship to peers, improving group efficiency and productivity, and elevating overall team performance.

What we're looking for:

Typically 5+ years of experience in finance technology or related industry with advanced technical acumen and hands-on experience designing and configuring complex technical solutions. Experience in the administration and technical leadership of Workday Financials. A Financial qualification (CIMA, ACCA, or equivalent). Extensive experience using, supporting and configuring enterprise financial systems, with deep operational finance knowledge in AP, P2P, and Expense functions. Deep understanding of Finance Technology concepts and practices with the ability to consistently apply and advocate for best practices and standards. The ability to confidently design and deliver medium to large-sized projects, breaking them down into smaller engineering problems for other engineers to solve, sometimes working across teams to meet deliverables. Proven experience leading the technical delivery of financial systems and acting as a subject matter expert. Expert understanding of integration approaches and technologies, with the ability to articulate trade-offs between different technical choices. Highly skilled in Microsoft Excel and data analysis with ability to demonstrate analytical approach in initiatives. Excellent at communicating with stakeholders across the organisation, demonstrating keen understanding of how the organization works and how to navigate and influence within it. Able to proactively identify problems, define root causes, determine solutions, and lead implementation with pragmatism - knowing when to create technical debt and when to pay it off. Able to translate deep technical expertise into scalable solutions and process guidance, designing products, services and processes that bring the most business value. Consistently embody Checkout Operating Principles and use them to help shape the group's culture. Always display accountability and take ownership of products and services, being a cornerstone in incident resolution and learning.

Experience preferred:

Experience in the administration and technical leadership of other financial systems such as Zip, Emburse, or Adaptive. Experience with VBA or SQL. Experience with low-code integration platforms. Experience mentoring and developing other engineers.
