The client is at the forefront of developed an exciting
thermal energy storage solution
, and are looking for a proactive, experienced Workshop Manager to join our growing team. This is a
hands-on leadership role
-- while you will be managing the workshop and a small team of engineers, fabricators, and welders, you will also be directly involved in fabrication, installation, and process improvement.
You will play a key part in delivering high-quality projects, improving efficiency, and driving innovation within a fast-paced, production-focused environment.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee daily workshop operations, including production planning, schedules, and workflow coordination.
Supervise, mentor, and lead a small team of fabricators, welders, and contractors.
Plan, install, test, and commission new machinery, equipment, and process improvements.
Interpret drawings, create cutting lists, and track project progress.
Maintain weld logs, material certification, RAMS, and ISO documentation.
Ensure work is completed to
high-quality standards
and complies with health & safety regulations.
Carry out
root cause analysis
, implement corrective actions, and improve machine reliability and uptime.
Manage materials, stock levels, and workshop logistics.
Liaise with engineers, project managers, clients, and other departments to ensure smooth delivery.
Lead continuous improvement initiatives with a focus on efficiency, lean manufacturing, and energy-saving solutions.
Take full ownership of the workshop environment, setting the standard for safety, productivity, and quality.
What We're Looking For
Proven experience as a
Workshop Manager, Supervisor, Chargehand, or Senior Technician
in a metal fabrication, manufacturing, or engineering environment.
Hands-on experience in
fabrication, welding, and metalwork processes
.
Strong leadership and team management skills, including performance appraisals and resource planning.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings (ISO, AutoCAD, or SolidWorks).
Knowledge of
QA/QC standards
, material certification, and ISO procedures.
Experience with workshop machinery and tools, including lathes, CNC machines, and plasma cutters.
Excellent problem-solving, organisational, and communication skills.
Flexible and proactive, able to work around production schedules, including occasional evenings or weekends.
Understanding of Lean principles, Six Sigma, or Autonomous Maintenance is desirable.
IOSH or NEBOSH qualification is advantage.
