The Opportunity
The York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority is seeking to appoint an accountant for its Economic Directorate.
The Accountant will play a leading role in the finance team, having responsibility for transactions processing and transaction recording and reporting, reconciliations, period end close, compliance, financial control and internal and external audit.
Working closely with the finance team (Assistant Accountant, Finance Business Partner and Head of Finance and Resources) the accountant will ensure a firm foundation for key accounting tasks that will underpin the Economic Directorate's reporting. To facilitate this the role will also involve exposure to project reporting to understand the information needs of the role's internal customers and wider stakeholders, promoting a collaborative 'big picture' approach to understanding and shaping the numbers.
What you will bring
A recognised (CCAB or equivalent) accounting qualification (preferably CIPFA) or a qualified accounting technician (AAT or equivalent) with evidence of substantial continuing professional development beyond attaining membership
Familiarity with financial regulations and governance frameworks applicable to local government.
Experience of accounting systems, in particular Xero and Oracle or similar
Strong Excel and data manipulation skills
Experience working in a combined authority or similar public sector organisation.
Wider stakeholder management skills
A track record of delivering continuous improvements in processes, systems and reporting
Decision-making, problem-solving and planning skills
