Recoop has been supporting and delivering services to help the older offender population, both in prisons and the community, for over fifteen years. The charity is delighted to be able to advertise for a Buddy Co-ordinator to work at HMP Wymott (3 days) and HMP Kirkham (1 day) each week.
The role is focused on establishing, delivering, and coordinating the Buddy Support Programme; a scheme that trains prisoners to support fellow prisoners with health and social care needs. This is a rewarding and impactful position, delivered in partnership with Lancashire County Council and HMPPS.
Relevant Information
Recoop's mission is to help and promote the care, resettlement and rehabilitation of older offenders and ex-offenders. We aspire to be the leader in the delivery of knowledge and expertise to older people who come in to contact with the criminal justice system, supporters, and the staff who work with them. We will continue to use the views of the people we work with to influence and direct the services that should be delivered.
We are one of very few specialist organisations working specifically to support the needs of this population group. Our services, particularly our Buddy peer support service, have been recognised as good practice by HMIP (Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Prisons), IMBs (Independent Monitoring Boards), and HMPPS (Her Majesty's Prison and Probation Service). With a national footprint, we are a registered charity working to empower older people within the criminal justice system to take control of their lives, to optimise their physical and mental health and to remain free from re-offending.
The successful candidate will have previous experience of working with vulnerable people, and ideally, individuals in the criminal justice system or a social care/mental health setting. Project management, Health & Social Care or training experience would be desirable, together with strong administrative and communication skills.
The successful applicants will be subject to DBS checks/disclosure and Prison Security vetting.
