We are currently seeking an experienced Buying Assistant to join a well-established, family-run SME based in Cannock. The mission for this role is to maximise profit and cashflow for the business through effective management of purchasing, stock control and freighting. 80% of this role will be looking after the buying and 20% will be liaison with a 3rd party distribution and logistics company to ensure stock levels are accurate and the products are being shipped properly.

Reporting to the Operations Director, this will be a sole role initially with support from the Purchasing Director from our main company, ideally you will have the drive, passion and hunger to work your way up to management and oversee a small team.

Key Responsibilities: (Not limited to)

  • Maintain tight control of buying prices.
  • Liaise with Operations Managers, Warehouse Managers and sales departments
  • Source new suppliers with support from the Purchasing Director
  • Manage supplier relationships.
  • Stock Management
  • Deal with the day-to-day admin of the purchasing dept including creating purchase orders
  • Build and maintain effective supplier relationships to maximise profitability and service levels.
  • Optimise stock levels and purchasing to balance the conflicting challenges of customer demand, cashflow and warehouse capacity.
  • Manage inbound and outbound freight of goods on a global level working with freight forwarding partners
  • Ensure that you work with the finance team to produce monthly reports to the board.
  • As a vital member of a small team the remaining time would include assisting with client care maintaining great customer relationships and working with the team on R&D projects developing exciting new products and launching them to market.
  • Undertake any additional reasonable duties as requested from time to time.
Requirements:
  • Previous experienced in a Buying role
  • Have an understanding of international shipping
  • Ideally you will have experience of using SAP Business one
  • Have previous experience in purchasing outside of the UK such as Far East and Europe
  • Ideally you will come from a commodity industry, preferably within packaging however this is not essential.
