About the Role



We are seeking a compassionate, proactive

De-escalation Mentor

to join our dedicated team at a

Primary SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) school in Hastings

. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of young learners who need extra emotional and behavioural support.


As a De-escalation Mentor, you will help pupils manage their emotions, build resilience, and re-engage positively with their learning. You'll work closely with teachers, pastoral staff, and external agencies to create a calm, safe, and supportive school environment.


Key Responsibilities



Support pupils with

social, emotional, and behavioural needs (SEMH)

in small groups and 1:1 settings Use

positive behaviour management

and

de-escalation strategies

to defuse challenging situations Develop pupils' emotional regulation, communication, and problem-solving skills Promote inclusion and engagement across all areas of school life Record and report incidents accurately, following safeguarding and school policies Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals

About You



We're looking for someone who is:


Experienced in supporting children with

SEMH or challenging behaviour

(in school, youth work, or care settings) Calm under pressure, empathetic, and patient Skilled in

de-escalation techniques

and

restorative approaches

Able to build strong, trusting relationships with young people Committed to helping every child achieve their potential
Relevant qualifications (e.g. Team Teach, MAPA, or SEMH training) are desirable but not essential -- training will be provided for the right candidate.
