Primary SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) school in Heathfield

As a De-escalation Mentor, you will play a key role in helping pupils regulate their emotions, manage behaviour positively, and re-engage with learning. Working closely with teachers and pastoral staff, you'll contribute to creating a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment for every child.
Key Responsibilities
Support children with
social, emotional, and mental health needs
in both 1:1 and small-group settings
Apply
positive behaviour management
and
de-escalation strategies
to manage challenging situations calmly and effectively
Encourage pupils' personal and social development through tailored interventions
Foster positive relationships and model appropriate behaviours
Keep accurate records of incidents and interventions, following safeguarding policies
Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals to provide holistic support
About You
The ideal candidate will have:
Experience supporting pupils with
SEMH needs
or challenging behaviour (school, youth work, or care background)
Strong
empathy, patience, and resilience
Confidence in using
de-escalation and restorative approaches
Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
A genuine passion for helping children achieve their potential
Relevant qualifications such as
Team Teach
,
MAPA
, or
SEMH training
are desirable, but full training will be provided for the right person.
