SUMMARY OF ROLE



The post holder will support the manager, and in their absence, deputise. To carry out all the duties and responsibilities detailed for the Manager (Person in Control). He/she will be expected to be responsible for maintaining and monitoring a professional approach, providing high quality care, delivered to a standard set by Footsteps Care and appropriate regulatory agencies.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES



1. PERSONNEL



To deputise for all aspects of the Manager's duties and responsibilities, which include: -

Provide leadership, support, and supervision to the Care Team, promoting high morale, team spirit and professionalism.

Ensure that statutory requirements and company personnel policies are understood and adhered to:

Ensure that the performance of all staff within their sphere of responsibility is appraised on a regular basis.

To lead and co-ordinate investigations and disciplinary actions

To participate in a co-ordinate staff recruitment

To foster amongst all staff a collaborative spirit with external professionals.

To assess, alongside the Manager staff training needs.

2. USER SUPPORT



To organise support for people on an individual basis as consistent with ordinary life principles to which Footsteps Care adheres

To promote and empower service users to participate in every aspect of the organization that affects their lives, maximizing self-determination on both collective and individual basis.

To develop advocacy support to greater, empower service users to make choices and act upon them.

Working with staff to identify and implement appropriate strategies for the management of user's behaviour, such strategies will have an emphasis on supporting the individual to control their behaviour while promoting their full participation in everyday activities.

To ensure that the promotion of independence is at the core of care planning.

To emphasize partnership in the quest for each resident's optimum care programme adopting a multi-agency/multi-disciplinary approach.

To oversee the referral, assessment and of children young people with learning disabilities.

3. STANDARDS



To ensure that the company's philosophy of care and service users charter are adhered to which include:

Establishing and maintaining high standards of residential care

Ensuring care for all service users is individualized and safe.

Monitoring standards of a routine and systematic basis

To ensure that standards required by registering authorities and other statutory regulatory bodies are met.

To keep up to date with current issues and promote good practice.

To ensure that complaints are dealt with promptly, professionally, and sympathetically in accordance with the Company's complaints policy.

4. FINANCE



Ensure that there is safe keeping and accountability for the finances involved in the day to day running of the home. There include children's pocket money, clothing allowance, toiletries money, activity money and general petty cash.

To establish a commitment to good housekeeping practicing and efficiency by all staff.

5. GENERAL POINTS



To ensure that the service comply with regulations in respect to Health and Safety at Work, environmental health, fire precautions, etc and abide by Footsteps Care policies and procedures.

To ensure the emergency "on call" system responds effectively out of office hours, weekends and on bank holidays.

Review and assist with preparing monthly progress reports for purchasing authorities.

Report and highlight problems to the Manager or Responsible Person.

Support the Registered Managers functions in every area.

This job description may be updated with the consent and agreement of the post holder in accordance with the duties and functions of the deputy manager to reflect responsibilities determined by Footsteps Care Homes Limited.

6. PERSON SPECIFICATION FOR THE POST OF DEPUTY MANAGER



Experience



Understanding of residential childcare

At least 2 years' experience of working with young people with learning disabilities aged 12-18yrs.

Level 3 Qualification

Evidence of supervising junior staff members/Leadership experience.

Experience of social or community work

Knowledge



Knowledge and understanding of the needs of learning disability adolescents and their potential

Knowledge of key working systems

Have good written & verbal communication skills

Knowledge and commitment of the companies' equal opportunities policy.

Understanding of childcare theory (Child-centred approach and the importance of routine, boundaries, consistency)

Awareness of children's learning disabilities

Skills



Ability to maintain written records, write reports and keep cash records.

Ability to work under stressful conditions

Ability to relate to residents within and outside the establishment in a tactful way

Practical care skills



Ability to physically intervene if residents' behaviour is dangerous to others or themselves

The ability to work hands on with the young people when required

Ability to organise tasks independently and efficiently

Leadership skills

Self-motivation

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: 16.50 per hour
