Introduction to the role:

Combining market-leading digital publishing with the commercial expertise of HarperCollins, the vision for One More Chapter is to close the gap between author, publisher and reader; reacting speedily to reading trends and publishing the best in commercial fiction across all formats \xe2\x80\x93 audio, eBook and print. Digital first for One More Chapter does not mean digital only.

We are looking for a new member to join our small but mighty team and we are looking for a passionate commercial reader who is familiar with the digital market, has experience of acquiring and working with authors as well as reacting quickly to global trends and identifying opportunities across all formats. With our startup mentality there will be the scope to acquire new projects and innovate and we are always looking for new authors and new ways of doing things. This is a fast-paced fiction list and you will be part of a team that works flexibly and has a lot of fun along the way!

Core responsibilities:

  • Managing and editing a list of existing OMC authors, maintaining communication with authors and agents and developing publishing strategies.
  • Liaising with authors over the progress of their book, as well as liaising with teams across the business including marketing, sales, rights, operations and digital.
  • Project managing titles from acquisition through to publication, including production work and using specialist software to create final PDFs and ebooks through Vellum.
  • Assisting the senior commissioning editor and publisher.
  • Responsibility for our open submissions inbox, keeping it up to date and using it to discover new authors.
  • Ownership of metadata/Ais for individual authors ensuring up-to-date information is available internally and externally.
  • Writing cover/catalogue copy as required.
Experience required:
  • Experience working at assistant editor level or above.
  • Previous commissioning experience is desirable but not essential.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to express technical and creative vision clearly.
  • Excellent organisational skills and experience of working to deadlines.
  • Advanced MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint.
Skills required:
  • Remains calm under pressure, able to work at pace and to tight deadlines.
  • Happy to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Dynamic and innovative, not afraid to do things differently.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • A love of commercial fiction.
  • Knowledge of digital publishing.
