to provide full-time 1:1 support for a Year 2 pupil with complex needs and a recently issued Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). This is a pivotal role focused on relationship-building, emotional safety, and highly personalised support.
About the Pupil
The pupil presents with
multiple diagnoses
, including
Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA)
,
ADHD
, and
significant anxiety
. While exceptionally bright and capable--working at
Year 5 level in Maths
--he finds it extremely difficult to follow direct instructions and thrives when he feels in control of his environment.
He currently attends school for a limited period (39 minutes daily), with the remainder of his learning managed at home. A
carefully paced, supportive transition
is in place, with the aim of gradually building up his school attendance. Developing
trust and social connection
is the first priority before any academic expectations are introduced.
The Right Candidate Will:
Be a
qualified HLTA
with extensive experience supporting children with
PDA, ADHD, and high anxiety
.
Demonstrate emotional maturity, calmness under pressure, and an ability to remain composed in the face of highly dysregulated behaviour.
Understand the importance of
low-demand communication
, using choices and indirect strategies to reduce anxiety and resistance.
Prioritise
relational safety
over academic targets in the initial phase.
Be comfortable collaborating with parents, senior staff, and external professionals, with a confident and professional approach to sensitive family dynamics.
Bring a positive,
physically active
energy--he loves
dodgeball, Lego, and movement-based play
--while offering a calm and regulated presence.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver daily 1:1 support tailored to the child's emotional and sensory profile.
Use flexible, child-led strategies to reduce anxiety and increase engagement.
Support gradual reintegration into a full school day with consistency and care.
Work closely with class teachers, the SENCO, and family to review and adapt strategies regularly.
This is a rare and rewarding opportunity for a skilled HLTA to support a truly exceptional child through a carefully supported transition. If you have the expertise, resilience, and heart to guide him forward, we would love to hear from you.
