Job Description

As a family-owned business with over 25 years history, we manufacture performance door-sets and architectural hardware for the UK market. With offices in Glasgow, Aberdeen, Nottingham and a 96,000sqft manufacturing facility in North Wales, giving us a commercial presence UK wide.

Based at our East Kilbride Head office, we are currently seeking a commercially astute Financial Controller to lead our finance team and develop the company's financial capability.

This is a pivotal role, responsible for ensuring robust financial control, financial compliance across a number of group companies, accurate and relevant financial reporting, and effective budgeting and forecasting processes. You will work closely with our Finance Director and the senior management team to support strategic & tactical decision-making as the business grows and develops further.

A hands-on approach is essential with the ability to provide support and problem solving for all areas of the wider business whilst always looking to implement and support positive change in a fast-moving environment. This is a visible role that will develop as the business grows, establishing close working relationships with our directors and communicating the numbers on a regular basis.

This position heads up a small finance team, providing all key services to exacting timetables and against a strong ethical approach. The role will involve leading, motivating and developing the team, whilst ensuring our key values and strong culture are front and centre in all aspects is paramount.

The ideal candidate will be instrumental in supporting the company's ambitious growth plans by enhancing efficiency and facilitating investment. Success in this role requires a strong command of all aspects of transactional finance, exceptional organisational skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively while offering guidance to both internal and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities



The role has a strong focus on financial and ethical compliance:
o Supporting a number of legal entities within a small group with family ownership

o Overseeing and actioning all statutory reporting requirements as well as tax compliance and reporting

o Leading the annual audit process across all entities and ensuring a strong and tight relationship with our external audit team

o Manage the preparation and submission of quarterly VAT returns

People Management & Development:
o Lead the finance team, driving performance and accountability in line with company values.

o Partner with internal leadership team and others across the business, supporting and challenging improvement initiatives as well as coaching on financial and commercial decision making

o Provide actionable financial insights to drive strategic and tactical objectives.

Investment to support a growing and changing business is key to success:
o Support a Capital investment plan by actioning and assisting in the creation of investment appraisal proposals, working with operational managers to continually appraise investments pre and post execution

o Support a people investment programme that aims to develop individuals and teams through structured training programmes, on the job development and coaching as necessary

Regular Reporting requirements:
o Prepare accurate, timely and relevant monthly management accounts for the business and its subsidiaries,

o Report on and continually help to develop a suite of KPIs that measure and monitor (including cost-to-serve, cost-to-acquire, and P&L reporting to support business decision-making)

o Business performance in a fast-moving environment

o Take ownership of the annual budgeting process, transforming financial plans into actionable strategies that drive our business forward. Lead the charge in delivering accurate forecasting, ensuring resources are deployed for maximum impact.

o Develop and maintain financial forecasts to guide strategic planning and decision-making, on a twice-yearly basis business wide and ad-hoc for various initiatives throughout the year

o Provide and present financial data and recommendations at monthly board and management meetings.

o Monitor and report on cash flow forecast information weekly, ensuring maintenance of strong cash reserves.

Work with various stakeholders in both a proactive and reactive way:
o As part of the senior leadership team, you will be involved in regular team meetings covering various business decisions and improvement initiatives

o You will provide regular and important information to the Board throughout the month and as part of the monthly board pack

o Liaising and working with the external audit team regularly. to ensure a smooth and productive annual audit process as well advising and seeking advice on key matters out with the audit process

o Ensuring a strong relationship with our bank relationship team on a regular and ad-hoc basis on various matters around investment, performance, funding options

Experience & Attributes



Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA) Proven track record in financial management at a financial controller or other comparable level. Experience of working for a manufacturing business Demonstrable ability to build and lead and develop a small finance team Capability in identifying improvements and "challenge the norm" Exceptional business partnering skills with a focus on strategic decision-making. Experience or working knowledge of working within a family business or relevant organisation would be an advantage
