SUMMARY OF THE ROLE



An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Estates Team of Pitsford School; a co-educational independent school for pupils aged 3 - 18 years old. The school offers a very attractive working environment based in delightful rural parkland setting of some 30 acres close to Northampton city centre.

As Groundskeeper you will use your experience and passion for the outdoor environment to help us maintain and improve our grounds and gardens to a high standard. You will have had previous experience working at a commercial pace, covering all horticultural operations and with proven skills at groundskeeping. Applicants will need to be prepared to work in all weather conditions and support more generally as part of a small busy team.

JOB PURPOSE



To ensure the grounds across the school site and the school's sports areas are well maintained and meet health and safety requirements.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES



To carry out day to day duties dependent on the weather and work schedule, including but not limited to:

Routine inspection and maintenance of grass areas and outdoor sports facilities

Landscaping such as planting, keeping borders and paths tidy, pruning and weeding Lawn mowing, hedge cutting, leaf clearing Sports field turf operations - mowing, scarifying, aerating, weed control and improvement Marking out winter and summer sports pitches Ensure proper care and maintenance of flower beds, trees, shrubs, hedges, fences, pathways and ditches Operate and maintain all groundskeeping equipment (e.g. lawnmowers, trimmers, tractors etc) Ensure all equipment is used safely and efficiently, conducting regular checks for maintenance needs Adhere to health and safety guidelines in all groundskeeping activities, including identifying and addressing potential safety hazards on the school grounds Preparation and assisting with School events such as Open Days, Bonfire Night etc Work alongside the Estates Manager as required to carry out other Estates duties such as carparking duties, furniture and equipment movement Act as keyholder carrying out security procedures for the buildings and grounds; including opening and locking up buildings, including alarms You may be required to undertake other duties from time to time as the School may reasonably require All staff at Pitsford School has a part to play in supporting the school's ethos, understanding pupil's safeguarding requirements and promoting the best possible image to parents and prospective parents.

PERSON SPECIFICATION



Education and Qualifications



Desirable



GCSE or similar qualification in English and Maths

Qualifications or training relevant to estate management, horticulture or construction (e.g. chainsaw certificate, knapsack spraying certificate).

Experience and Knowledge



Essential



Previous experience of working in a similar role

Desirable



Experience of working in a school

Experience of working in a conservation area and of TPOs

Ability and Skills



Good level of numeracy and literacy

Ability to drive the school minibus

Able to:

The post holder should be committed to health and safety, and be willing to undertake training to enable the implementation of procedures for the welfare of pupils and staff
