Job Summary

The Hotel Night Porter is responsible for ensuring the comfort, safety, and security of guests throughout the night. This role involves handling guest enquiries, managing late check-ins and early departures, maintaining cleanliness in public areas, and performing basic administrative and security duties. The Night Porter represents the hotel during the overnight hours, ensuring that all guests receive a high standard of service at all times.

Key Responsibilities

Welcome and assist guests with check-in, check-out, and general enquiries during night hours. Conduct regular security checks and patrols throughout the hotel to ensure safety and security. Respond promptly to guest requests, emergencies, and complaints, ensuring issues are resolved or escalated appropriately. Complete the nightly audit process, balancing and reconciling daily financial transactions if required. Maintain cleanliness and order in public areas, reception, and back-of-house spaces. Set up or prepare the breakfast area and assist with early morning service if necessary. Handle incoming phone calls, messages, and reservations. Ensure that all entry and exit points are secure overnight. Record all incidents, maintenance issues, and guest interactions in the night logbook for morning staff. Support the night manager or duty manager with any other operational duties.

Skills & Requirements

Previous experience in a hotel or customer service role (preferred but not essential). Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Strong attention to detail and ability to work unsupervised. Reliable, trustworthy, and able to handle confidential information. Basic computer literacy (hotel booking systems experience an advantage but not essential). Calm and professional under pressure.

Working Conditions

Primarily overnight shifts. Standing and walking for long periods. May involve light lifting or carrying (e.g., luggage or cleaning supplies).
