Job Description

A Friendly Food Club tutor is someone who shares our passion for good food and who understands and appreciates the power that food and eating together has, to support people's mental health and wellbeing to support positive change in their lives.

The role is a self-employed role and will require a degree of flexibility, including school holidays.

The role requires excellent communication skills, experience of leading education/community sessions and working in a group setting is desired but we will be looking for someone who can multi-task and work with people to make them feel welcomed, valued and listened to.

You should have the ability to demonstrate our values of compassion, respect, integrity, and creativity in the work that you do.

You don't need to be a chef, but some technical understanding of and passion for home cooking, nutrition and health will be valuable.

The

Lead Tutor

role is to plan, shop and lead the delivery of community cooking sessions and programmes in a variety of settings across Dorset,

but particularly Weymouth and Portland.



About the Friendly Food Club



The Friendly Food Club is an established and growing Dorset-based charity. We reach over 10,500 people per year, across 600 events.

We are a charity on a mission to give everyone in Dorset, regardless of age, ability or access to resources and funds, the opportunity to gain the knowledge and skills to cook healthy and affordable meals.

We work in partnership with local community organisations to run one off or regular sessions and courses adapted to local group's needs, but also run some of our own events, shaped and influenced by our communities with lived experience.

Key responsibilities:



Promote the values and mission of the

Friendly Food Club

.

To work with any other team member, support tutor, partner, volunteer or other visitors to deliver a fun, friendly and inclusive session to the agreed standards of the Friendly Food Club.

Plan and deliver engaging cooking sessions based on project briefs.

Coordinate with community partners to confirm session details.

Preparation and printing of recipes and any other materials.

Shop for ingredients within budget, maximizing value.

Set up, run, and clear up session.

Ensuring a safe, hygienic and welcoming environment.

Adapt sessions to different venues, participant needs, and circumstances.

Complete hygiene paperwork.

To understand and protect personal data, and act in accordance with our policy.

Coordinate session evaluations, photographs and comments.

To keep up to date with training requirements, in particular food hygiene, health and safety and safeguarding.

Essential Requirements



Right to work in the UK

Valid driving licence and vehicle with business insurance

Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate (or willingness to obtain)

Enhanced DBS (FFC will apply on your behalf)

Strong communication skills with diverse communities

Practical demonstration of health, safety, food hygiene and safeguarding

Ability to lift and move equipment safely

Organized, adaptable, and good at record-keeping

Comfortable using technology for communication and recipes

Access to a phone, computer/tablet (printer preferred)

Passion for cooking, nutrition, and health

Some storage space for equipment

Able and willing to undertake additional training and development as provided by the Charity

Desirable Skills



Experience with people with disabilities, neurodivergent people or general community work

Background in cooking, hospitality, or catering

Knowledge of nutrition and food health management

Social media and content creation experience

Job Type: Freelance

Pay: 100.00 per day
