Job Summary

Purchasing Manager / Buyer

We are a SME manufacturing business based in Dunstable specialising in metalwork and electrical mechanical systems.

We are seeking a Purchasing Manager to lead our procurement function, while building strong, collaborative relationships with our supplier base.

Responsibilities

Manage all purchasing activities to ensure timely and cost-effective sourcing of materials and components. Develop and implement procurement strategies aligned with production schedules and business goals. Take ownership of the purchasing function ensuring accurate data entry, reporting, and system optimisation. Collaborate with production, planning, and finance teams to improve system integration and data flow. Identify and implement improvements to enhance forecasting, order accuracy, and procurement efficiency. Build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with existing and new suppliers. Lead supplier negotiations and performance reviews to ensure quality, reliability, and value. Support supplier onboarding and development to align with our brand values and quality expectations. Work cross-functionally with design, production, and quality teams to support product development and manufacturing needs. Stores management and inventory control

Experience - Essential

At least 2 years

of proven experience in a purchasing or procurement role within a manufacturing environment. Excellent communication, negotiation, and supplier management skills. Analytical and detail-oriented with a proactive, problem-solving mindset. Ability to thrive in a hands-on SME environment. Strong organisational skills with attention to detail, capable of managing multiple priorities effectively. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to liaise effectively with suppliers and colleagues.

Qualifications - Desirable

Experience in manufacturing Basic understanding of electrical components CIPS qualification or equivalent (or working towards).

Licence/Certification:

Right to work in the UK documentation (required) Driving Licence
