We are seeking a
resilient and experienced SEN Teaching Assistant
to support a Year 6 pupil in a mainstream primary school in N3, Barnet. This is a
1:1 role
with a child who presents with
high anxiety
,
limited verbal communication
, and frequent
challenging behaviour
including physical aggression and disengagement.
The post is
4 days per week
,
term time only
, running from September through December, with the pupil transitioning to a specialist provision in January. The role is intense, complex, and requires someone with confidence, patience, and a calm presence.

Key Responsibilities
Provide consistent 1:1 support for a pupil with significant SEMH needs
Use behaviour management strategies, de-escalation techniques, and structured routines
Promote emotional regulation and engagement in daily activities
Support learning through cooking, sensory play, and outdoor tasks
Work closely with the SENCO and ARP team to implement tailored strategies
Candidate Requirements
Proven experience supporting pupils with SEN and SEMH
Team Teach or equivalent training (preferred)
High levels of emotional intelligence, resilience, and calm under pressure
Enhanced DBS (on the update service or willing to apply)
Able to commit to four days per week, term time only
