Key Responsibilities of a SEND Teaching Assistant
Provide
1:1 support
and small group interventions for pupils with SEND (autism, ADHD, sensory needs, learning difficulties).
Work alongside class teachers,
SENCOs
, and external professionals to deliver personalised learning and
EHC plans
.
Adapt learning materials and activities to create an inclusive classroom.
Support pupils'
emotional well-being and positive behaviour
with tailored strategies.
Take part in wider school life, enrichment activities, and staff collaboration.
What We're Looking For
Qualifications:
Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant qualification or relevant SEND training (desirable, not essential).
Experience:
Previous work as a
Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant (LSA), SEN Teaching Assistant
, or in a childcare/education support role is highly valued.
Skills:
Strong communication, empathy, patience, and adaptability.
Knowledge:
Understanding of strategies such as
PECS, Makaton, sensory support, or behaviour management
is beneficial.
