Teachers UK are seeking a
committed and caring SEND Teaching Assistant
to support a mainstream primary school in the S43 area of Chesterfield. This
long-term position
is perfect for someone confident in providing personal care and willing to support pupils in both classroom and wider school activities--including swimming lessons.
About the Role:
Providing dedicated 1:1 and 2:1 support for two wheelchair-bound pupils with physical disabilities.
Delivering
high levels of personal care
, including toileting, hygiene assistance, dressing, and mobility support throughout the school day.
Assisting the pupils in the classroom and supporting them during activities such as
swimming sessions
--you must be willing and confident to accompany the class to the pool and provide support in the water if required.
Working as part of a wider team including the class teacher, SENCO, and other staff to deliver personalised education and care plans.
Promoting independence, confidence, and dignity while ensuring safety at all times.
Candidate Requirements:
Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEND and/or complex care needs is
highly desirable
.
Confident and comfortable delivering intimate personal care in a professional and respectful manner.
Willingness to support pupils during
swimming lessons
, including providing assistance in the pool.
Knowledge or experience with wheelchair use, hoisting, or manual handling (training can be provided).
Calm, patient, and empathetic nature with a flexible, positive attitude.
An Enhanced Child Workforce DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply through Teachers UK).
Ability to provide proof of ID, address, and right to work in the UK.
