SEND Teaching Assistant

This is a long-term temporary role with the opportunity to become permanent. It is perfect for someone passionate about supporting children with additional needs in a primary setting. Working in a mainstream school in Carlisle, you'll play a vital role in helping pupils feel confident, safe, and supported--both in and out of the classroom.

The Role

Provide targeted one-to-one or small-group support for pupils with EHCPs or additional learning needs. Support class teachers in delivering inclusive and differentiated lessons. Encourage the development of key skills including language, literacy, numeracy, and social communication. Help children regulate emotions, manage routines, and thrive in a structured environment. Collaborate with SENDCOs, parents, and outside agencies to support individual pupil progress.

The Ideal Person

This role suits someone who is caring, resilient, and committed to inclusive education. Suitable candidates will have:

Minimum Level 2 Teaching Assistant, Childcare or Early Years qualification Experience supporting children with SEND, especially ASD, ADHD, or speech and language needs. Backgrounds in support work, care, health or youth work are welcomed. Excellent communication, adaptability and a strong team ethic.

Hours

8.30 am-3.30 pm, Monday to Friday. Both full-time and part-time hours are available.

If you do not have a subscription to the DBS Update Service, you may be required to complete a new DBS application as part of the registration process. If you take a temporary role with Sense Education you will be paid on a weekly basis. All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position but long term. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available.
