Job Description

NAYC is seeking a Senior Youth Worker to work alongside our Youth Centre Manager and take a lead role in the delivery of our established detached youth work in the Melbourne area of Chelmsford, our centre-based sessions at the Youth Centre and our in-school mentoring program. Sessions run both daytime and evenings with a need for flexibility. This role will require someone with the experience and capability to lead the team in delivering high quality sessions, the ability to plan, prep and evaluate and to ensure work is well evidenced.

About Us



North Avenue Youth Centre is a well-established charity-based youth centre in Chelmsford and works with young people aged 8 - 18 (up to aged 25 with additional needs) in the area. We aim to engage young people in a range of activities both within the Youth Centre and in the community. Through these activities North Avenue Youth Centre aims to develop meaningful and positive relationships with young people, based on mutual trust and respect, helping young people reach their full potential.

About You



Relevant youth work qualifications, previous experience in detached youth work and working with young people in a lead role is essential. The prospective member of staff will be expected to demonstrate passion and commitment to the work with young people, with a strong practical understanding of the key values of detached youth work and informal education, in order to further develop the provision at North Avenue Youth Centre.

As a Senior Youth Worker you will need to:

Have the skills, enthusiasm, and experience to lead and deliver sessions, including centre based youth work, detached youth work, in school 1:1 mentoring, offsite activities and residentials in order to make the most of every opportunity with young people.

Have the skills and experience to effectively lead a small team. Be confident in planning, reporting and evaluating sessions. Enjoy working with young people and have a can-do attitude. Be solutions focused, adaptable and able to bring ideas to reality. Have the ability to work on own initiative as well as part of a team. Be able to embrace challenge and change and contribute new ideas. Be reliable and honest. Be understanding of the issues and experiences of young people. Be a positive role model with strong morals. Be committed to empowering young people to achieve their potential. Possess great listening and communication skills when working with young people and adults. Have an excellent understanding of safeguarding children and young people.
