Job Description

Helpers Avenue is expanding its dedicated services for young people aged 16+ and is currently recruiting an experienced and passionate Service Manager to lead our semi-independent accommodation provision for Looked After Children (LAC) and Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Children (UASC).

We are looking for a leader with a heart for transformation--someone who can drive forward a service that provides a safe, empowering, and person-centred environment where young people can thrive as they transition to adulthood. The successful candidate will be instrumental in shaping a high-quality service that meets both regulatory standards and the unique needs of every young person.

Key Responsibilities:



Operational Leadership

- Take full responsibility for the day-to-day running and long-term development of our semi-independent living service.

Compliance & Quality Standards

- Ensure all activities meet OFSTED expectations and legislative requirements, maintaining a high-quality standard of care.

Team Management

- Lead, mentor, and inspire the staff team to deliver effective support, while also facilitating ongoing training and development.

Personalised Support Planning

- Oversee tailored care plans that reflect each young person's needs, goals, and potential.

Safeguarding & Risk Management

- Promote a strong safeguarding culture and put proactive risk management strategies in place.

Stakeholder Engagement

- Work closely with local authorities, social workers, and other professionals to ensure the best outcomes for young people.

Budget Oversight

- Manage budgets and resources efficiently to ensure the sustainability and effectiveness of the service.

Monitoring & Reporting

- Keep thorough and up-to-date records, providing reports to regulators and senior management as required.

Service Improvement

- Identify opportunities to improve service delivery and implement best practices to ensure ongoing excellence.

Registered Manager Role

- The successful candidate must be prepared to act as the Ofsted Registered Manager for the service.

Qualifications & Experience:



A recognised qualification in social care, youth work, or related field (e.g., NVQ Level 5 in Leadership and Management, or equivalent). Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (England) Significant experience within the last 5 years, worked for at least 2 years in a position relevant to the residential care of children Significant experience working with vulnerable young people, particularly within a 16+ semi-independent or residential care setting. Strong leadership background, with proven ability to manage teams and services effectively. Excellent knowledge of relevant frameworks, including OFSTED regulations, safeguarding legislation, and the Children's Act. Confident communicator and relationship builder across all levels--young people, staff, families, and professional partners. Strategic thinker with a practical, proactive mindset and a deep commitment to empowering young lives.

Pay: 35,250.00-40,970.00 per year
