Purpose of Role:





To support the delivery of high-quality education and care for pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) in a primary school Resource Provision. The role focuses on meeting individual needs and promoting positive outcomes in learning, communication, behaviour, and independence.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Support for Pupils




Work one-to-one and in small groups with pupils with ASC, delivering adapted support to meet individual needs as identified in

Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs)

. Promote engagement, social interaction, and communication, using evidence-based strategies including

TEACCH

,

Total communication approach

and

visual supports

. Help pupils self-regulate emotions and behaviour using consistent and proactive approaches. Encourage independence in daily tasks, including learning, life skills, and self-care. Provide personal care where required, maintaining dignity and safeguarding.

2. Curriculum and Learning Support




Assist with the implementation of

individual learning programmes

, under the guidance of the class teacher and SENCo. Support access to a broad and balanced curriculum adapted to the needs of the pupils, in line with the principles of

inclusive education

. Use specialist strategies to reduce barriers to learning, including sensory and communication interventions. Promote the development of functional and transferable skills.

3. Record Keeping and Assessment




Contribute to regular monitoring and recording of pupil progress against EHCP outcomes. Support with observations, progress reports, and reviews. Participate in

Annual Review

processes by sharing relevant observations and supporting documentation.

4. Teamwork and Collaboration




Work closely with class teachers, SENCo, therapists, and external agencies, following a multidisciplinary approach. Attend relevant staff training and participate in

CPD

focused on SEND practice and ASC-specific approaches. Contribute to a positive, collaborative school ethos aligned with safeguarding and equality policies.

5. Safeguarding and Welfare




Uphold the school's

. Maintain a safe and nurturing environment in line with

Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE)

guidance. Ensure the physical and emotional wellbeing of all pupils.
