Afghan Association Paiwand is a registered charity and limited company founded in 2002. We aim to support the Afghan and wider refugee and migrant communities in the UK by reducing poverty, advancing education, and providing relief through a wide range of services--including advocacy, social support, accommodation, youth services, education projects, and mental health counselling.
We currently assist over 1,800 beneficiaries annually across Northwest London.

The Role
We are seeking a passionate and skilled individual to join our Board of Trustees as the Advocacy Lead. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who wants to take a hands-on leadership role and contribute directly to building Paiwand's advocacy strategy.
As a Trustee, you will support Paiwand's mission, ensure strong governance, and promote the rights and wellbeing of vulnerable communities, especially refugees and migrants.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the development and implementation of Paiwand's Advocacy Strategy.
Act as an ambassador for Paiwand's advocacy work, helping raise awareness and influence change.
Provide advice and guidance on advocacy and policy issues.
Collaborate with the board and staff to support service delivery and outreach.
Manage and mentor advocacy volunteers (if applicable).
Promote Paiwand's work and contribute to fundraising and partnership efforts.
Attend quarterly board meetings and contribute to governance decisions.
Participate in annual strategy away days and key charity events (e.g., AGMs, media visits).
Who We are Looking For
Essential:
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Passionate about supporting vulnerable and marginalised communities.
Interest in advocacy, human rights, or social justice.
Willingness to take an active role in governance and strategic development.
Desirable:
Experience in advocacy, advice/information, health, social care, or voluntary sector roles.
Knowledge of issues facing refugee or migrant communities.
Leadership or project management experience.
Interest in digital outreach or online campaigning.
Time Commitment
Quarterly board meetings (online or in-person).
A few hours per quarter of flexible ad hoc involvement.
Participation in an annual away day and occasional events such as AGMs or stakeholder visits.
