About Us
Afghan Association Paiwand is a registered charity founded in 2002, providing support to refugees, asylum seekers, and vulnerable communities in Northwest London. We empower young people through education, advocacy, mentoring, and community engagement. Our services currently support over 1,800 beneficiaries annually.
The Role
We are seeking a Trustee Board Member for Youth Services who will play a vital role in the strategic leadership, governance, and development of Paiwand's youth programmes. This is a unique opportunity to make a real impact on the lives of young refugees and asylum seekers by helping guide a well-established and growing organisation.
Key Responsibilities
Shape and oversee the strategic direction of youth services
Ensure compliance with safeguarding legislation and internal policies
Support financial oversight and sustainability of youth programmes
Build relationships with schools, local authorities, and community partners
Promote youth voice and participation across our services
Monitor programme outcomes and contribute to ongoing improvements
Assist in fundraising efforts and resource allocation
Participate in board meetings and strategic planning
What We are Looking For
Experience in youth work, education, social care, or community development
Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection legislation
Governance experience or understanding of trustee responsibilities
Ability to collaborate, lead, and challenge constructively
Commitment to diversity, equity, and anti-discriminatory practice
Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills
Familiarity with budgeting or charity finance (desirable)
Time Commitment
Attend quarterly trustee board meetings (in-person or online)
2-4 hours per month for ongoing strategic input and engagement
Participation in occasional events, training, or safeguarding reviews
Safeguarding Requirements
All trustees must complete safeguarding training and pass an Enhanced DBS check. Paiwand follows strict child protection policies aligned with UK safeguarding legislation.
