The Role
We are currently seeking a dedicated and experienced individual to join our Board of Trustees and lead the development of our Immigration Strategy. This is a fantastic opportunity to use your skills to support vulnerable communities and contribute to the growth and governance of our charity.
As a Trustee with a focus on immigration, you will help shape Paiwand's immigration support services, provide strategic oversight, and advise on compliance and best practices.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the design and implementation of Paiwand's immigration advice and support strategy.
Provide expertise and guidance on immigration policies, practices, and compliance.
Assist in managing immigration projects and potentially support or supervise immigration volunteers.
Promote Paiwand's immigration work to external stakeholders and partners.
Attend quarterly board meetings and actively participate in the governance of the organisation.
Contribute to organisational fundraising and advocacy efforts.
Represent the charity at relevant events, meetings, or public forums.
Who We're Looking For
Essential:
Experience working in immigration advice or services.
Qualification in OISC (Office of the Immigration Services Commissioner) Level 1 or above, or equivalent understanding of UK Immigration Law.
Strong communication and team collaboration skills.
Passion for supporting refugees, migrants, and other vulnerable groups.
Desirable:
Experience in a voluntary, legal, social care, or non-profit setting.
Previous involvement in strategy, leadership, or governance roles.
Experience mentoring staff or volunteers.
An understanding of the Afghan community or lived experience of migration is a plus.
Time Commitment
Quarterly board meetings (held online or in person).
Ad hoc hours per quarter to support strategy, advice, and project development.
Attendance at one annual away day and other occasional events such as AGMs, funder visits, or stakeholder meetings.
