Our mission is to support the Afghan and wider refugee and migrant communities in the UK by reducing poverty, advancing education, and providing relief through a range of services including advocacy, social support, accommodation, youth activities, and mental health counselling.

The Role
We are looking for a committed and experienced Treasurer to join our Board of Trustees. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in finance or accounting (preferably within the charity sector), and the ability to guide the board in fulfilling its financial oversight responsibilities.
This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in supporting Paiwand's mission and ensuring our long-term financial sustainability.
Key Responsibilities
Review cash flow, forecasts, budgets, and financial strategic plans in monthly 30-minute virtual meetings (Microsoft Teams).
Present financial updates during quarterly trustee board meetings.
Supervise preparation and approval of annual statutory accounts.
Ensure financial policies and practices are legally compliant and aligned with the charity's goals.
Provide financial advice to the Chair and Board as required.
Support the preparation of year-end accounts and financial reporting.
Attend and contribute to strategy away days, AGMs, and key events as needed.
Oversee financial policy reviews and the use of designated funds.
Monitor financial systems including QuickBooks and Excel-based reports.
Essential Skills & Experience
Qualified accountant with knowledge of charity SORP.
Experience managing budgets and producing financial reports.
Ability to explain financial information to non-financial board members.
Understanding of the legal duties and responsibilities of trusteeship.
Desirable Attributes
Previous experience as a charity treasurer.
Familiarity with charity fundraising and finance.
Knowledge of QuickBooks and Excel-based financial tracking.
Commitment to the mission and values of Paiwand.
Collaborative, proactive, and strategic thinker.
Time Commitment
Quarterly board meetings (online or in-person).
Monthly 30-minute finance check-ins.
Ad hoc support and communications via email or phone.
Annual strategy day and occasional events such as AGMs or media visits.
This is a voluntary position. Reasonable expenses for meetings and events will be reimbursed.
