We're seeking a
compassionate and reliable Waking Night Residential Support Worker
to join our dedicated care team. This is a key role where your presence and attentiveness through the night ensures
stability, safety, and emotional reassurance
for the young people in our care.
About the Role
You'll work closely with our experienced leadership team, including the Registered Manager and Deputy Manager, receiving full training and support to develop both personally and professionally. This role requires consistency, vigilance, and a nurturing approach to ensure young people feel secure throughout the night.
Key ResponsibilitiesGeneral Responsibilities
Ensure the
safety, welfare, and well-being
of all children and young people during night shifts.
Promote a
nurturing, calm, and structured environment
to support effective sleep routines.
Demonstrate
resilience, empathy, and professionalism
, maintaining boundaries and safeguarding at all times.
Night-Time Supervision and Monitoring
Conduct regular, discreet
welfare checks
in line with the home's procedures.
Monitor and respond to incidents of
challenging behaviour
using therapeutic and trauma-informed approaches.
Ensure that
security systems, doors, and exits
are monitored and secure throughout the night.
Support and Emotional Reassurance
Provide calm, comforting
emotional support
to children experiencing distress, anxiety, or sleep difficulties.
Promote
healthy sleep hygiene
and model quiet, soothing behaviour throughout the shift.
Offer a
reassuring presence
to young people needing additional overnight support.
Incident Management and Safeguarding
Defuse incidents using
approved de-escalation and behavioural management techniques
.
Accurately record and report all
significant events
, concerns, or interventions.
Promptly notify senior staff or the
on-call manager
in the event of an emergency or serious incident.
Health, Safety, and Medication
Perform regular
health and safety checks
, including securing perimeters and fire safety equipment.
Administer
medication
in accordance with policy and maintain accurate MAR records.
Maintain awareness of any
hazards or potential risks
and act immediately to mitigate them.
Domestic and Environmental Duties
Maintain high standards of
cleanliness and hygiene
in communal and kitchen areas.
Complete light
housekeeping tasks
, including laundry, tidying, breakfast preparation, and packed lunches when needed.
Morning Transition Support
Wake young people in a
calm, supportive
manner and assist with
morning routines and personal care
.
Prepare and supervise
breakfast
, encouraging positive routines and social interaction.
Ensure young people are ready and appropriately dressed for the day ahead.
Record-Keeping and Documentation
Maintain
detailed written records
of observations, incidents, and interventions.
Complete nightly
monitoring charts, medication logs
, and handover documents accurately and on time.
Ensure all documentation meets
regulatory and organisational standards
.
Training, Development, and Team Collaboration
Attend
mandatory training
(e.g., safeguarding, first aid, restraint, medication).
Participate in
supervision, debriefs
, and reflective practice to improve outcomes for young people.
Work closely with the
day staff team
to ensure consistency in care, and communicate clearly during shift handovers.
Collaborate with
managers, social workers, health professionals
, and families where required.
Compliance and Professional Standards
Operate in full compliance with the
Children's Homes Regulations (2015)
,
Ofsted expectations
, and all organisational policies.
Maintain
confidentiality and data protection
in handling all information related to young people.
What We're Looking For
Minimum
1 year of experience
in residential childcare or a similar care setting (preferred)
Level 3 Diploma
in Residential Childcare (or working towards it)
A calm, observant, and
nurturing approach
to overnight care
Strong communication, emotional resilience, and
professional maturity
A clear understanding of
safeguarding
, trauma-informed care, and behavioural support
A
full UK driving licence
(preferred)
